Buona sera from Canneto

An impromptu shot as we settle in to our rocky repose on the beach in Canneto. The beaches around Lipari vary from pebble to white and black sand. I remember pebbles like this from the beaches in Nice, France. The sensation on my feet is unfamiliar and not altogether pleasant. Not totally unpleasant though, either.

In the photo you can barely see the islands of Panarea and Stromboli in the distance. Stromboli is an incredibly active volcano, and we might stay here long enough to look for some lava explosions against the night sky. There are boat tours available to view the spectacle. Maybe we’ll take such a tour the next time we visit these islands.

I hear church bells in the distance, Italian all around me, and gentle waves crashing behind me.

Happy Labor Day Weekend!
